What’s your title?
I am a Facilities Services Representative.
Can you briefly describe what you do?
I was hired to resolve any escalated customer service issues and assist project managers entering requests. I have had many responsibilities that have changed over the years. Currently I work closely with various Medical Center and Academic supervisors, directors and superintendents to resolve any escalated issues and direct customers to the proper contacts. I also research work orders and concentrate on customer resolution.
How long have you worked at Facilities Management?
I was hired in December 2007 and began in January 2008.
What do you feel was your greatest accomplishment at work this past year?
COVID-19 reminded me to really check in on my customers, some co-workers and people I care about. To reevaluate what’s important and what is needed to give the best service I can to anyone I come across.
Where did you grow up?
In Virginia
Did you have a dream job as a child?
To become an illustrator for DC Comics or work for Hasbro on the GI Joe TV series.
What do you like to do in your time outside of work?
Spend time with the kids. They make you remember things aren’t as difficult as they appear. Life is full of blessings.
Who or what inspires you and why?
My mother. She was a teacher who battled cancer for a very long time. She didn’t complain and chased her dreams until the very end. I’ve met several people here at the University like her that remind me my problems are small in the scheme of things, even though it feels overwhelming at times.
Can you share a great piece of advice you’ve been given?
It’s very simple. My mother use to say, “chin up and back straight.” Everybody encounters adversity. What matters is how you handle it. I haven’t always followed that advice, but I try every day.
What is the best part of your day?
When I talk to customers and resolve issues or connect them to what they need.
What’s one place in the world that you would like to visit that you haven’t before?
I want to visit Fira, Greece, see the pyramids in Sudan and visit Jerusalem. I’m unsure if I will get over my fear of flying anytime soon, but I’ll keep reading about these places anyway!
