What’s your title?

Housekeeping Supervisor

Can you briefly describe what you do?

I supervise custodial staff to meet our department's standards of providing aesthetically pleasing and safe buildings for everyone here at UVA to enjoy.

How long have you worked at Facilities Management?

Six years

What do you feel was your greatest accomplishment at work this past year?

Diamond honing the floors inside Newcomb Hall over the summer. The project took a month and a half to accomplish. We got dirty, we laughed, and had a great sigh of relief when it was over.

Where did you grow up?

My father was in the Army, so my family moved around a lot. I have great memories of living in Germany and Japan.

Did you have a dream job as a child?

I wanted to be an archeologist or a paleontologist. When I was little, I loved digging in the dirt. Shiny rocks and bottle caps were my buried treasures.

What do you like to do in your time outside of work?

Reading, spending time outside enjoying nature, family game nights and working on puzzles with my kids.

Who or what inspires you and why?

My faith. It’s the one thing throughout my whole life that has had consistency. The teachings, beliefs and values have been consistent no matter where in the world I have lived.

Can you share a great piece of advice you’ve been given?

Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Forgiveness means letting go and not purposefully bringing back to mind things which you said you've forgiven.

What is the best part of your day?

When everyone in my family has made it home from work or school.

What’s one place in the world that you would like to visit that you haven’t before?

I would like to see the pyramids in Egypt and the Great Wall of China.
